MARLBOROUGH

Eldest ancestor Henry Spencer died around 1478. His descendant sheep farmer Sir John Spencer (+ 1522) bought the estates of Wormleighton and Althorp. His descendant Sir Robert Spencer (1570-1627) was created Baron Spencer of Wormleighton in 1603. His grandson Henry Spencer, 3.Baron Spencer (1620-1643), was created Earl of Sunderland in 1643. His grandson Charles Spencer, 3.Earl of Sunderland (1675-1722) married as his second wife Lady Anne Churchill, daughter of John Churchill, since 1702 Duke of Marlborough (1650-1722). Their son Charles Spencer, 5.Earl of Sunderland (1706-1758) succeeded his aunt as 3.Duke of Marlborough in 1733. In 1817 the surname was changed to Spencer-Churchill.

  1. Is Susan Hornby a descendant of Edmund Hornby, son-in-law and nephew of the 12th Earl of Derby and his first wife Lady Elizabeth Campbell? Edmund Hornby married Lady Charlotte Smith-Stanley, while his sister Charlotte Margaret Hornby md her maternal cousin the 13th Earl of Derby.

    1. Unfortunately no. I just checked the peerage.com

Susan, formerly Marchioness of Bkandford, is descended from another Hornby family stemming from Hugh Hornby.
